
Between land and sea, the town of Vico Equesne is the doorway to the Sorrentine Penisular, of ancient origin, as all the Campania Provinc, dominated by Oscans, Greeks and Etruscans. It was a Bishop's Seat until the Neapolitan Revolution in 1799. Vico Equense is an important bathing and thermal resort. In Vico Equense one can also find the famous Pizza a Metrò

Positano is unique. It is the focal meeting point for the elitè of the entire Amalfitan coastline. It appears like a natural Nativity Scene with its innumerable villas, shops (like rich sitting romms) and restaurants. They are attached in rows as in a theatre or opera house, from its beaches to the most remote heights and fiords of its mountainous rocks.
Amalfi was one of the four ancient Maritime Repuplics, together with the cities of Pisa, Venice and Genua. It competed with them for the control of the Mediterranean Sea. The most famous monument is the fascinating Cathedral of Saint Andrew, (wich houses the skull of the Saint in its crypt) in an Arabic - Sicilian style; splendid is also the Emerald Grotto (complete with a submerged, ceramic Nativity Scene) wich is an equal to the famous Blue Grotto of the Isle of Capri. Stopping point of the Grand Tour, Amalfi is not to be missed!
The excavations of Pompeii, together with that of Herculaneum, are the only archeological sites wich give the possibility of being able to relive the life of th eancient Roman world. Pompeii city was buried by ash and (lapil) volcanie stones, whilst Herculaneum was filled in by ... and lava during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

About 10 Kms. from Pompeii, Mt.Vesuvius is the only active volcano on the European-Continental Block.
